ŠENJI IV

TITLE: ŠENJI IV
WORKSHOP LEADER: Valter Černeka

CONTENT: Šenji IV are slowly drifting away from the traditional graphic medium and are mutating its form into plaster molds/negatives. In this change, Šenji keep one important characteristic, that of the multiplication of the artwork, the duplication of the desired subject. In this case we direct the action towards the desired subject, object or being that has its specific and unique form. Precisely in this close relationship between the author and its artwork - mysterious relations, uncontrollable joy and shaken indecisions, are awoken. This year’s attention will focus on this short process of taking prints of the forms in which the authenticity of the mold will become a finished and whole work of art. If an artwork can be finished while it’s still being done, and if the artwork is finished when the author says it’s finished than this is a way to leave out and throw away some borders; which is precisely the moment of transition from a realistic expression to abstract articulation. We bring to mind the mechanical way that constantly revolves around the classic notion of sculpture, raising awareness of the way through the technique itself and the behaviour of materials that lead us to the desired result. Negatives are a trap for Šenji the same way control is a trap for instinct and if in this forest of details we can decide for ourselves where to set the limit of concept that has no borders, than it is a path that opens new doors and gives the possibility of understanding abstraction.
